The Youth Prevention Specialist is responsible for the delivery of universal, selected and/or indicated prevention services. As a Youth Prevention Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the community by developing relationships and implementing evidence-based curriculum to reduce drug and alcohol misuse among youth and adults in Kendall, Kerr and Bandera Counties. In addition, services include the promotion of social-emotional learning for youth. The State’s four prevention priorities: underage alcohol use, tobacco and nicotine products, marijuana and other cannabinoid use, and prescription drug misuse and the use and misuse of other drugs and substances. These services promote a proactive process to address adverse childhood experiences, social determinants of health, and/or other youth, family and community risk and protective factors. This position is grant funded through 8/31/2029.
• Facilitate prevention programs in schools and community settings with a trauma
informed lens
• Partner with educators, families, and community organizations
• Lead activities that build life skills and self-esteem
• Promote awareness of substance misuse and provide resources
• Maintain accurate records and support grant reporting
• Represent HCCADA at outreach events, meetings, and trainings
• Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in public health, education, or human services
• 1–2 years of relevant experience (teaching, prevention, or youth work)
• Strong communication skills, teamwork, able to meet deadlines
• Reliable transportation and ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and community events
• Background in education, public health, or youth programming
• Strong communication and group facilitation skills, able to work cross functionally
• Meet deadlines and manage multiple competing priorities.
• Experience with substance abuse prevention or youth group facilitation
• Self-starter with solid organizational skills
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally
